Your IT budget is lying to you

Line items look reasonable: Software licenses. Hardware refresh. Cloud infrastructure. Security tools. It all adds up, gets approved, money gets spent.

But here's what the budget doesn't show:

  • The three systems that do the same thing because nobody coordinated
  • The licenses you're paying for that nobody uses
  • The "temporary" workaround that's been running for three years
  • The security gap you don't know exists because you're checking compliance boxes instead of managing actual risk

After 20 years leading IT, from MSP owner to COO to Fractional CIO, I've seen the same pattern: Companies don't have IT budget problems. They have IT alignment problems.

When your technology spending isn't connected to clear business outcomes, you're not making investments, you're just spending money and hoping it works out.

The fix isn't spending more. It's spending smarter with someone who knows how to connect the dots between what you're buying and what you're trying to accomplish.

What's hiding in your IT budget that nobody talks about?
